HSBC Asset Management has appointed Ray Chan as exchange-traded fund (ETF) business development director, based in Hong Kong, reporting to Jaqueline Pang, head of ETF sales, Asia-Pacific.
In this newly created role, Chan is responsible for driving the growth of HSBC and Hang Seng ETF penetration from the distribution perspective, covering various segments ranging from insurance, asset managers, pension, private banks and intermediaries.
He brings over 20 years of experience in the asset management industry and specializes in ETF investment advisory, distribution for institutional and intermediary, in Asia. Prior to joining HSBC, Chan was last with Taikang Asset Management where he led the sales and business development efforts for pensions and intermediary segments. He also spent eight years in State Street Global Advisors where his last position was the head of Hong Kong for SPDR (Standard & Poor’s depositary receipt) ETFs.
“We see good growth potential in Asia,” Pang says. “With his extensive experience in business development on institutional and particularly the retirement fund markets, Chan’s appointment supports our key initiative to expand our ETF footprint in the region.”
Over just two and a half years, HSBC Asset Management’s ETF business has grown to over US$17 billion in assets under management, representing an increase of around 188%.
