Allianz Global Investors has appointed Alex Bibani as senior portfolio manager to further strengthen its thematic equity team.
Based in London, Bibani joins AllianzGI from August 31. He will focus on managing thematic equity strategies aligned with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals. In addition, he will become deputy portfolio manager of AllianzGI’s sustainable and responsible investment strategy, which had €2.5 billion (US$2.54 billion) in assets under management as of July 31.
He will work alongside current co-lead portfolio managers Gunnar Miller and Robbie Miles. He will report to Andreas Fruschki, head of thematic equity.
Bibani joins AllianzGI from Sarasin & Partners, where he has managed a range of ESG and sustainably focused global equity funds for institutional clients since October 2015. Prior to that, he worked at IFM Investors, where he was a small-cap analyst and part of the portfolio management team, and Ratio Asset Management, where he started his professional career as a European small and mid-cap analyst in 2006.
