Private Capital Awards 2026: Five trends reshaping wealth management in Asia
Leading institutions shift from a product-centric approach to advisory-led models
The Asset   16 Jul 2026

Private banking and wealth management in Asia continued to undergo a significant structural evolution in the second quarter of 2025 to the first quarter of 2026, the period covered by The Asset’s Private Banking and Wealth Management Awards.

Against a backdrop of persistent global fragmentation, fluctuating macroeconomic pressures, and massive intergenerational wealth transfers, the region’s leading financial institutions continued shifting from a product-centric approach to advisory-led models.

Based on this year’s award submissions, the first major trend that has become evident in Asian markets, outside China and Taiwan, is the empowerment of the “One Bank” model with institutional-grade capabilities.

For the region’s ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNWIs) and rapidly multiplying family offices, standard wealth management products are no longer sufficient. Now, growing emphasis has been placed on the “One Bank” model.

Top private banks and wealth management institutions have increasingly integrated private banking, investment banking and capital markets capabilities, providing sophisticated clients with direct access to private deals, bespoke cross-border liquidity solutions, and highly customized structured products.

The second trend is that artificial intelligence (AI) has migrated from a back-office novelty or basic chatbot interface into a core, front-office engine of advice. Leading private banks across Asia began deploying advanced AI platforms as robust decision-support systems.

By augmenting relationship managers with sophisticated data analytics and real-time scenario modelling, banks scaled deep personalization. AI now increasingly supports portfolio construction, client insights, personalized recommendations, and risk monitoring.

The third trend that has become evident during the review period is that the multitrillion-dollar intergenerational wealth transfer across Asia is no longer a projection but an active, complex reality. In response, wealth managers have continued expanding their next-generation initiatives and family office capabilities.

Nexgen clients are increasingly tech-savvy, globally minded, and focused on institutionalizing their family wealth through structures and sophisticated multifamily office platforms.

Also, they now show growing interest in innovation, multi-asset investing and, where aligned with family objectives, impact and sustainable investing.

The fourth trend is the emergence of high-growth wealth corridors beyond the primary hubs of Hong Kong and Singapore. This is particularly true in Southeast Asia, where intense wealth creation has accelerated the demand for pan-regional connectivity.

Institutions that have successfully consolidated regional franchises and deployed localized, tech-driven sub-hubs are well-positioned to benefit from capital flows moving through the Asean wealth corridors.

By coupling agile “chief investment office” or CIO strategies – including selective asset allocation to income-oriented assets, infrastructure, private markets, and long-term structural themes such as AI – with seamless cross-border capabilities, top wealth managers help clients navigate volatility while pursuing long-term growth opportunities during a macro cycle.

The fifth trend is the continued expansion of private markets, especially private credit, private equity, infrastructure, and secondaries. Access to private market investments has become one of the clearest differentiators for UHNWIs and family office clients.

With the increasing demand for family governance and wealth management, there has been progressive development of family office service providers in markets like mainland China and Taiwan. Professionals from banking, insurance, and trust sectors, and even CFOs, are gradually setting up dedicated advisory institutions to cater to the sophisticated demands of the HNW families. Some of these innovative services and business models are recognized in the Editors’ Triple Star award.

Taiwan’s ambition to become a wealth management hub like Singapore and Hong Kong is becoming prominent. Now, with the Kaohsiung Special Zone, many wealth management services and products are open to private banks.

Clients are inquiring about Lombard lending, insurance policies and premium financing, as well as family office services. Cross-border wealth planning capabilities and tax optimization expertise are also in demand. These are reflected in the new awards categories under the family office section.

Private bankers argue that there are limited supportive or guiding initiatives under family office services, but they are lobbying the regulators. The market is expecting more details to roll out later this year or early next year.

It is in this context that we announce winners of the Private Banking and Wealth Management Awards as part of The Triple A Private Capital Awards for Private Banks, Wealth & Investment Bank Advisers, Solutions and Index Providers 2026.
