Construction has been progressing on the Agra Metro Mass Rapid Transit System in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, after the European Investment Bank ( EIB ) formally signed off on a €450 million ( US$510.4 million ) loan for the project in December.

The €908 million project, with a total length of 29.4 kilometres, is being financed by the government of India and the government of Uttar Pradesh on an equal equity basis, together with the EIB debt.

The first line ( Corridor 1 ) will run 14km from Sikandra to Taj East Gate, while Corridor 2 will run from Agra Cantonment to Kalindi Vihar on a 15.4km line. The priority corridor comprises an initial 7km section with six stations ( three underground and three elevated ) between Jama Masjid and Taj East Gate. It is set to open in March 2024.

The EIB loan covers the construction work and the procurement of rolling stock.
